The Stooges Brass Band recently traveled to Pakistan for a series of performances sponsored by the U.S. Consulate. As part of a cultural exchange mission, the Stooges funked up Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Hyderabad, where they apparently were the first-ever American band to perform.

The Pakistan Daily Times reported that at a hotel in Karachi, the Stooges “enthralled the audience with their beautiful performance and received overwhelming appreciation.” Pakistani singer Asif Sinan also rendered his “Sufi Tabla-Dholki and Jazz fusion.”
The show concluded with the Stooges and Sinan collaborating on a song called “Yaro Yahe Dosti Hay,” which previously was not part of the New Orleans brass band repertoire.
After a swing through northern California for the High Sierra Music Festival, the Stooges are back home for a July 8 gig at the Essence Music Festival. They then head overseas again to the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in Scotland.
